The report out of Duke University found children spanked as one year olds were more aggressive and at the age of two than children who weren't spanked.

The spanked children also performed worse on cognitive tests when they turned three.

Verbal punishment such as yelling had no negative effects if the parent was also loving and attentive to the child.
