Airlines rake in with re-booking fees

Consumers have been socked with lots of airline fees and here's one that rarely gets talked about. That is the fee you pay to change your travel plans.

Statistics out today show the airline industry collected a record $1.1 billion in re-booking fees during the first six months of this year.

That's almost double what the carriers collected last year and three times more than in 2007.

The reason? Many airlines have doubled their rebooking fees. It can now cost you up to $150 per leg of the flight to change your mind about when and where you want to fly.
