Jonathan Jarvis is a 30-year park service veteran and had been its West Coast regional director until now.

Jarvis was reprimanded earlier this year for misrepresenting the environmental impact of the Drake's Bay Oyster Company on the Point Reyes seashore. The farm has had a long-running battle with the park service.

But its lease has been extended for an additional 10 years under a $32 billion appropriations bill for the Department of the Interior, approved by the U.S. Senate Thursday.
