Gap widens between richest, poorest

New census figures show the recession has hit middle and low income families the hardest, and has widened the gap between the richest and poorest Americans.

The wealthiest 10 percent of Americans, those making more than $138,000 a year earned about 11.4 times as much as those living near or below the poverty line.

That is up from 11.2 in 2007.
