Chief Anthony Batts spent nearly 30 years with the Long Beach police department.

He served as chief for his last seven years there before coming to the Bay Area.

During his time as chief, long beach's crime rate dropped to its lowest level since the mid 1970s.

Mayor Ron Dellums will officiate a ceremonial swearing in for Batts at Wednesday night's city council meeting.
