From now through February, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District can make it illegal to burn wood or fire logs by declaring a Spare the Air day or night.
Wood smoke is the largest source of winter-time air pollution in the Bay Area and this year, homeowners who break the rule and light a fire, can be fined $400.
