Prejean had sued pageant directors claiming they discriminated against her, because of her Christian religious views. The pageant filed a counter-suit; both suits were dropped after mediation.
As King tried to convince her to put her microphone back on, things got more awkward. Ultimately Prejean continued the interview, after telling viewers her publicist had worked out a deal with King not to take phone calls. King said he didn't know anything about that and again apologized.
