The officer was heading east on Highway 84, about a mile east of Highway 680, when a malfunction occurred in the assembly of his rear wheel at about 6:15 p.m., CHP Officer Steve Creel said. The wheel didn't dislodge, but the incident caused the officer to lose control of the motorcycle and crash on the highway.
The officer, who works out of the CHP's San Jose division, was taken to Valley Care Medical Center in Pleasanton to be treated for minor scrapes and some road rash to his hip, Creel said.
The official cause of the crash is under investigation.
