The camera went up at the intersection of Redwood Road and Monterey Boulevard.
It is the seventh red light camera in Oakland.
The camera will take four photographs that show red-light runners entering, crossing and leaving the intersection.
It also makes a 12-second video.
Oakland police eventually want to have 20 red-light cameras across town.
