Feds gets tough on retailers over instant credit

WASHINGTON

Well now the Federal Reserve wants to make that "instant credit" a lot harder for retailers to dole out.

The fed is proposing a new rule that would require retailers to "first" find out "how much money you earn" and what other bills you owe before handing out that instant credit.

The rule is to protect against consumers getting in over their heads. Retailers are objecting, saying people aren't walking around with pay stubs and credit reports.
