BART to increase security on New Year's Eve

December 21, 2009 11:33:34 AM PST
Hundreds of extra police officers will be riding BART or patrolling its stations during New Years Eve.

The officers will come from BART, Oakland police and sheriff's deputies from San Francisco, Contra Costa and Alameda Counties. The beefed-up presence is a response to the fatal shooting of Oscar Grant last New Year's Day by a BART officer.

BART will also run trains until 3 a.m. and add trains to get people out of San Francisco quickly before crowds build up on platforms.
