Police in Oakland found $500,000 worth of marijuana plants after a fire broke out at a former fortune cookie factory on Monday.

An electrical malfunction started the fire inside the building on Seventh Street, in the city's Chinatown District.

Police found at least 1,000 marijuana plants inside the building.

An eviction notice shows the owners vacated the property in November of last year.

Police say the growers were also pirating electricity.

So far, no arrests have been made.
