The National Weather Service expects waves to reach 20 feet by mid-week -- ideal for hosting the contest off Half Moon Bay. But surfers are looking at conflicting models on whether rain and winds will persist.
Once the contest date is chosen, the world's best surfers will have 24 hours to get there to compete for $150,000.
Last year's event was cancelled because they never got good waves.
