Bay Bridge lane closures may be uneccesary

On Tuesday, state transportation officials plan to tell lawmakers that further lane closures on the Bay Bridge to complete repairs to a support beam may not be necessary.

Several lanes of the Bay Bridge were periodically closed last December to fix and strengthen a cracked eyebar. Caltrans previously warned that more lane closures might be needed to supplement or replace the latest fix.

Now, Bay Bridge officials believe the current repair is holding up well and a new eyebar may not be needed.
