Tiburon wants help paying for crime cameras

SAN FRANCISCO

Tiburon leaders voted last November to make their community the first in the Bay Area to record the license plate of every car that enters or leaves the town. Installation of six cameras is estimated to cost less than $200,000.

Supporters say the cameras will provide stepped-up security and give authorities a critical tool to solve major crimes. Critics say it is an invasion of privacy.
