The Food and Drug Administration will now require makers of CT scanners and other imaging machines to include safety controls.
The controls will keep patients from getting too much radiation. The government is trying to rein in the boom in radiation-based medical scanning.
Studies show it has doubled the average American's radiation exposure since 1980.
