The California Fish and Game Department is investigating a pelican health crisis.

Hundreds of brown pelicans have been found sick or dead along the entire coast since mid January.

Bird sanctuaries, including the International Bird Rescue Center in Cordelia, are caring for roughly another 300.

Wildlife experts say the culprit may be toxins from urban runoff from all our recent storms.

Fish and Game says turbid waters may also be making it hard for the pelicans to find their food sources -- sardines and anchovies.
