Fremont cops fatally shoot man with handgun

FREMONT, CA

The officers responded to a report of a family disturbance in the 3500 block of Norfolk Road at about 11:40 a.m. when they learned a man at the home had been drinking and was armed with a handgun, Fremont police Detective Bill Veteran said.

After arriving at the home several officers contacted the man in front of the garage while other officers evacuated the man's wife and 10-year-old daughter through the back of the home, Veteran said.

The officers briefly negotiated with the man before be "raised the handgun in the direction of the officers," according to Veteran.

Four officers then discharged their weapons, killing the man, Veteran said.

No one else was injured in the incident.

All four officers involved in the shooting have been placed on routine paid administrative leave, Veteran said.

The Alameda County District Attorney's Office will investigate the shooting along with the Police Department.
