New rules roll out on recalls

Up until now, most have been voluntary, but that could soon change.

New rules go into effect next week, giving federal courts and the Consumer Product Safety Commission the authority to order a recall.

The new guidelines were originally proposed by President Obama back when he was a senator.

Consumer reports says it is still unclear how often and under what circumstances mandatory recalls might be issued.
