Pedestrian killed by VTA light rail vehicle

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority light-rail vehicle in San Jose this evening, a VTA spokeswoman said.

The incident happened at about 5:25 p.m. in the area of North First Street and Metro Drive as the vehicle was approaching the Metro/Airport stop, VTA spokeswoman Linh Hoang said.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. There was no report of injuries to the 10-15 passengers on the train.

Hoang said a bus bridge is taking passengers between the Karina Court and Civic Center stations.
