California cut from "Race to the Top" program

On Thursday morning, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan announced California failed to make the cut in round one of the Obama administration's "Race to the Top" program.

Sixteen other states are still competing for over four billion dollars in federal stimulus funds... going to states that have adopted innovative reforms to improve student performance.

Governor Schwarzenegger says he's disappointed, but this shows: "We need to be more aggressive and bolder in reforming our education system."

California can still apply for round two funding in June.
