School board to vote on changes to SF assignments

The San Francisco school board is expected to vote on a new plan that would change how students are assigned to public schools.

Right now, students can end up attending schools across town instead of being allowed to go to a school in their own neighborhood.

Board members are working on a new policy that could focus more on a family's home address in considering a school assignment.

The new policy could begin in the fall of 2011.
