Alleged kidnapping leads to seven-hour standoff

ROHNERT PARK, CA

Miles Minoletti, 21, said on his Facebook page around 2 a.m. today that he had been kidnapped and was being held hostage by his father, Martin Minoletti, in a room at a Motel 6 in Rohnert Park, Department of Public Safety Lt. Jeff Taylor said.

Minoletti's stepfather in Colorado learned from friends about the Facebook posting and called the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety, Taylor said.

More than a dozen Rohnert Park police and fire officials set up a perimeter around the motel at 6145 Commerce Blvd. and contacted a hostage negotiator from the Petaluma Police Department, Taylor said. The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office also sent a SWAT unit.

Police also received a report there was a gun inside Room 145 where Minoletti and his father were staying, Taylor said.

The hostage negotiator contacted the Minolettis who surrendered around 8:50 a.m., Taylor said. Police recovered a .357 Magnum from the room.

Miles and Martin Minoletti are being questioned at the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety this afternoon to determine if there actually was a kidnapping, Taylor said.

Martin Minoletti, 47, a Mendocino County resident, was arrested today on two warrants, one for $25,000 and one no-bail warrant, from Mendocino County, Taylor said.

Miles Minoletti is a Rohnert Park resident who recently moved to Sonoma County to enroll in the Santa Rosa Junior College's Police Academy, Taylor said.

Both men went to the motel in Miles' car, Taylor said.
