Capt. Sgt. Binkley was sentenced to five years probation Friday.
Binkley used a gun to steal prescription painkillers from a Walgreen's store in 2006.
He told ABC7 in a jailhouse interview that he became addicted to the drugs after army doctors prescribed them for a fractured hip.
Binkley served in Bosnia and suffered from post traumatic stress disorder.
