A 43-year-old Richmond man was arrested early this morning on suspicion of killing a motorcyclist in a hit-and-run drunken driving accident in San Pablo on Wednesday night, San Pablo police Lt. Jim Creekmore said today.

Police were called to the 2500 block of Church Lane at about 9:15 p.m. on a report of a hit-and-run crash involving a motorcyclist.

When they arrived, they found the motorcyclist, 35-year-old Richmond resident Anthony Walker, suffering from massive injuries, Creekmore said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner's office.

The driver who hit him had abandoned his pickup truck at the scene and fled on foot, but a witness was able to identify him, Creekmore said.

At about 3 a.m. today, San Pablo police investigators served warrants at the driver's home in the 1600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Richmond, where they arrested Juan Manuel Ruelas on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter, Creekmore said.

Creekmore said that after his arrest, Ruelas admitted to investigators that he ran from the scene of the crash because he had been drinking.

Ruelas was also on probation for a prior DUI and his license had been suspended. He has been booked into county jail in Martinez on $200,000 bail.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call San Pablo police at (510) 215-3150.
