The crash, which involved four vehicles, was reported shortly before 9:10 p.m. on eastbound Highway 4 near Franklin Canyon Road in unincorporated Contra Costa County in the Hercules area.
Two people who were injured in the crash were taken to a hospital, according to the CHP.
The CHP was hoping to reopen at least one lane this morning, but repairs are taking longer than expected, Van Eckhardt said.
