Police need public's help in Muni assault

SAN FRANCISCO

Police released surveillance video of one of the attackers getting away after beating a man on a light rail car. The video was recorded two weeks ago at the stop on Third Street and Williams Avenue. It is not much to go on, but investigators say it is a start.

"It's kind of old police work what we're going on. We're really going to interview as many people as we can because somebody knows something. Somebody may recognize something as a friend or a relative or somebody they know from the neighborhood," says Lt. Joe McFadden.

This was one of three serious assaults on the Third Street line this year. Recently, surveillance video showed a woman being thrown onto the tracks last month and an elderly man died shortly after another assault in January.
