New airline tarmac waiting rules to go into effect

The new airline tarmac waiting rules will go into effect a week and there will be no exceptions.

After three hours of waiting, airlines must now allow passengers to get off the plane.

It has been common airline practice to trap passengers onboard flights for hours when waiting for a takeoff slot.

The rules came after consumers and congress members were outraged by these entrapments.

Five airlines asked to be excused from the rules and regulators have told them "no."

You may remember some of the incidents where passengers were forced to sit for hours on planes without heat, water, food and bathroom facilities.
