Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger helped launch a new institute designed to make the world a little greener.

He made the announcement at Google headquarters in Mountain View Thursday.

The Green Products Innovation Institute will develop chemical standards for products that are both safe and healthy for people and the environment.

"I think this is a perfect example of public-private partnership and how it should work," Schwarzenegger said. "We launch a new era of public health and environmental protection here in California by doing this here today."

The institute will be headquartered in San Francisco.
