San Francisco police are trying to figure out if problems with their crime lab could have played a role in a deadly hostage stand-off in Sacramento last week.

The San Francisco police crime lab reportedly never tested the blood evidence found at a murder scene in the city last April. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the person who may have been involved in that murder was shot down by Sacramento police last week.

Between the time of the April homicide and his death last week, Alvarez allegedly robbed several banks and shot at a Concord police officer who tried to arrest him.
