Calistoga man rescued after falling into well

CALISTOGA, CA

Firefighters responded to 1313 Foothill Blvd. at 2:06 a.m. when a neighbor who lives across the street called 911 after hearing someone yelling, Campbell said.

Authorities arrived to find the man about 30 or 40 feet down in the well. The victim, who was renting the home, had apparently gone for a walk late Monday night or early this morning and wasn't aware the well was there, Campbell said.

A Napa County search-and-rescue team responded, and a rescuer was lowered into the well with a harness and brought the man out. He was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center where he was in stable condition this morning, Campbell said.

Firefighters from Napa and Cal Fire assisted in the response. It took about 90 minutes to get the man out of the well, in what Campbell called a "flawless rescue."
