Researchers discover how brain controls movement

PALO ALTO, CA

Scientists at Stanford University and the Gladstone Institute believe this can offer promise for treating movement-related disorders such as Parkinson's disease.

The team used fiber-optic technology to monitor the brains of mice to see how these circuits work. That included stimulating "stop and go circuits." The stimulation of "stop circuits" mimicked the effects of Parkinson's.

The findings are published in the Journal Nature.
