A small grass fire broke out on Friday night in San Jose and sent a huge plume of smoke into the sky.

A towering column of smoke could be seen for miles.

The fire started around 7 p.m. and burned four acres, near Highway 87 and Curtner Avenue.

Witness Clay Alvord said ash was falling from the sky.
