More consumers are getting serious about coupons

A new survey shows shoppers are serious about saving money this way. According to a survey by NCH Marketing Services, a sister company of Redplum, a coupon supplier, Americans saved nearly $2 billion using coupons in the first half of this year.

That's a 37 percent increase from pre recession levels.

A report issued by Harvard University earlier this year says coupon use fell year after year since 1992, until 2008 when usage jumped way up.

As of February of this year online coupons only made up one half of one percent of those available to consumers.
