uReport: A-bomb memorials honored in Berkeley

BERKELEY, CA

It was remembered Saturday night at Aquatic Park in Berkeley, where candles were set afloat to reaffirm the commitment to peace.

A user named "roblewis56" sent a video to uReport powered by YouTube showing the event. A similar ceremony took place in Japan where, for the first time, U.S. representatives joined more than 70 other nations for an emotional event.

The bombing of Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945 claimed the lives of about 140,000 people and opened the door to the atomic age. Three days later, about 80,000 people died after the United States also bombed Nagasaki.
