Man dead, police dog wounded in Antioch shootings

ANTIOCH, CA

The incident began when police were called to the 2100 block of D Street around 1:15 Friday morning on reports of a home burglary. Officers found a suspect inside a home...and released the police dog to help flush him out.

The dog was hit as was the suspect. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. The dog was transported to a local vet we have out here and is expected to survive," said Antioch Police Lt. Leonard Orman.

Police have not released the suspect's name yet. The residents of the home where the shooting happened had just left for vacation and police believe that's why it was targeted.

The officers involved in the shootout have been placed on routine paid administrative leave while the DA investigates.
