The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office has identified a body found last week near a marijuana garden in unincorporated Santa Clara County as that of 24-year-old San Jose resident Carlos Valencia.

Valencia's body was found at about 1:40 a.m. Friday on a ridge in the area of Sheila Avenue and Prom Drive, between the cities of Morgan Hill and Gilroy, sheriff's Sgt. Rick Sung said.

Valencia's body had at least one gunshot wound, Sung said. The case was initially investigated as a suspicious death.

A sheriff's office investigation has revealed that Valencia was shot by an unknown assailant while tending goats on property above Uvas Reservoir.

The sheriff's office is continuing its investigation and asks anyone with information to call sheriff's Detective Sgt. McAllister at (408) 808-4500 or (408) 808-4401 after business hours.
