Long time Bay Area TV anchor Dave McElhatton dies

SAN FRANCISCO

McElhatton passed away Monday morning after a stroke.

Mac, as many knew him, was an Oakland native.

He retired from the CBS 5 anchor desk in 2000 after nearly 25 years on the air.

Prior to that he worked for KCBS radio for 25 years in a variety of roles, including hosting the Bay Area's first telephone talk show and oversaw the radio station's move to an all news format.

Among his many accolades McElhatton was an inaugural inductee to the Bay Area radio hall of fame in 2006.
