People enjoying the sunny weather took part in Oakland's first gay pride celebration in six years.

People danced as musicians played in Oakland's Uptown District Sunday. The pride celebration came after an effort spearheaded by councilmember and mayoral candidate Rebecca Kaplan.

Oakland held pride celebrations every year from 1997 until 2004. Organizers hope to make pride celebrations an annual tradition in Oakland.
