The AC Transit board of directors will meet Wednesday night to consider cutting transit service to save money.

The agency is proposing to cut night and weekend bus service to reduce a projected $56 million deficit.

The system would save $13.5 million through the proposed cuts.

Overnight service would be reduced to just two lines.

More than half of the weekend service would be cut out. The union representing drivers points out that AC Transit has already spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on legal fees trying to avoid court-ordered contract arbitration.
