Man snaps pictures in UC Berkeley locker room

BEREKELY, CA

At UC Berkeley's recreational sports facility warning signs are posted about a man who's been taking cell phone pictures of women in the shower.

"In that particular case he appeared to be wearing a wig. The custodian believed it was a man disguised as a woman," says Lt. Alex Yao from the UC Berkeley Police Department.

"I was actually in the locker room Wednesday afternoon. I didn't see anything happen, I didn't see anyone suspicious, but it's a little disturbing," says Berkeley student Diana Rashid.

The first incident happened last Monday, around 9:30 p.m.

"One of the girls who worked here was running around freaking out," says UC Berkeley student Elizabeth Saylor.

By the time he struck again last Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., staff members already had a good description on him.

"The person is described as a Hispanic male or Indian male in his 20's. Approximately 5'6", 140 pounds, and at the time he had a white gym towel wrapped around his head," says Yao.

The sports center is open to the public, but students and gym members need an ID card to access the locker rooms.

Police say it's possible he snuck in some other way. That is being investigated as well as the surveillance video taken on those days.

"I don't really have a choice. I have to change here, but maybe I will look around for suspicious people first," says UC Berkeley student Patricia Yu.

Police are quietly working to catch the suspect, but they may never restore the sense of security that's been shattered here.
