State Franchise Tax Board warns of e-mail scam

The state Franchise Tax Board says an email's going around that looks like it's from a tax agency -- warning taxpayers that their federal online tax payment didn't go through, and directing them to another website.

The state never sends email notices regarding payments. It warns taxpayers of problems by phone or mail.

Taxpayers receiving suspicious emails should not click on the link or respond to the sender. Anyone who has a question about an FTB EFT payment should check their bank account to verify whether an EFT payment has been made or call FTB at 800.852.5711, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.
