As part of a program called Street Smarts, Sullenberger will discuss the dangers of texting while driving, especially among teens, at Dougherty Valley High School.
The event, which begins at noon, marks the launch of the teen-oriented driving safety campaign, "It Happens."
Sullenberger is known for safely landing a US Airways jet in the Hudson River in January 2009 after the plane's engines were disabled by a flock of geese.
Joining him at the podium will be San Ramon Mayor H. Abram Wilson, Danville Mayor Mike Doyle, San Ramon Valley Unified School District Board President Rachel Hurd, Jen Quallick of Contra Costa County Supervisor Mary Piepho's office, and Terry Koehne of the Street Smarts program advisory committee.
The Street Smarts program, which is entering its seventh year, is a citywide program that promotes traffic safety to the community through programs, school assemblies and public events.
Today's event will take place in the school's main quad.
