Jesse Jackson spends night in homeless shelter

SAN FRANCISCO

Tuesday, Jackson will be the guest speaker at a gala to benefit the Hamilton Family Center. The center has been working for 25 years to end homelessness in the Bay Area.

"Two things strike me when I come to the homeless shelter, the number of people who are working by day who live in the homeless shelter and the number of children in these shelters who in fact end up being disconnected from school," said Jackson.

Jackson says there are more than 1,000 families waiting to get into the shelter and the numbers show no sign of improvement.
