Tickets are sold out for Games 1 and 2 against the Texas Rangers, scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday at AT&T Park, and the ticket reseller website StubHub lists the cheapest ticket at $361 for standing room only, with a seat costing up to $32,000.
Faced with the sky-high price range, some people are getting creative on Craigslist, offering a smorgasbord of items and services in exchange for a chance to see the Giants play in their first World Series since 2002.
The team is trying to win its first title since its move to San Francisco from New York in 1958.
Chris Wells, a former San Francisco resident who now lives in Oregon, is offering to trade everything from a motorhome, van, motorcycle or boat to other items like an upright piano, an exercise bike and a collection of baseball cards and Barry Bonds bobblehead dolls.
Wells is seeking two tickets for his 16-year-old son and himself. He posted the Craigslist ad on Sunday but said today he has "gotten kind of a minimal response."
He said he is trying to trade the items because he can't afford to buy tickets online.
"We are not what I would call a wealthy family by any means," Wells said. "The economy has hit us pretty hard."
He said he and his son "have liked the Giants for a long time," and recalled going to games as a kid himself "when they were at Candlestick and everyone was freezing to death."
"We haven't had an opportunity to see them for a bit, and we're trying to reconnect and find a way to see this game," he said.
He said even though time is running out, if anyone is willing to trade, "we'll do an all-nighter and drive all night" to San Francisco to see the game on Wednesday or Thursday.
Wells will have to compete against several other Craigslist posters who have made offers in the "barter" section of the popular classified ad website.
One of the higher-end offers included airfare, a timeshare in Hawaii, and use of a vacation home in the Florida Keys.
"Will barter dental work for Giants tix," reads another Craigslist post.
Another Giants fan is offering a brand-new Motorola Droid 2 smartphone or an Apple iPhone 3G in exchange for a ticket.
Only one Craigslist poster in the "barter" section was offering tickets to the series. A post from Monday offered tickets for Games 1 and 2 in exchange for a new Apple MacBook Pro laptop.
Some people offered tickets to San Francisco 49ers games in exchange for Giants tickets. That might be a hard sell though - the 49ers are not doing nearly as well as their baseball counterparts this year, having started the NFL season with a 1-6 record.
