The San Francisco Chronicle reports the $7 million pilot project would provide one thousand bicycles for registered subscribers -- much like a car sharing program.
Participants who sign up and pay a membership fee would unlock the bikes electronically with a credit or prepaid smart card and users can ride the bike and drop it off at any bay area station within the network.
