Brentwood gas line capped, evacuation lifted

BRENTWOOD, Calif.

At about 8:40 a.m. construction workers hit a 1.5-inch gas line at Chestnut Street and Park Way, according to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

Six homes and a daycare center were evacuated, Brentwood police Lt. Tom Hansen said. He said employees at the daycare center took the children and left voluntarily as soon as they heard about the break.

PG&E crews were able to cap the gas line by about 10:15 a.m. and the evacuation orders were lifted, Ehlers said.

By about 10:30 a.m., one customer remained without gas, but Ehlers said crews expected to be able to restore gas service within an hour.

No injuries were reported.
