San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom Thursday announced the opening of a biotech company that aims to bring more jobs to the Bay Area.

Nektar Therapeutics is relocating from San Carlos, bringing 150 jobs to a new 100,000 square-foot headquarters in Mission Bay.

San Francisco is also creating a new program called BioSF to stimulate expansion in biotech and life-science start ups. There are now 73 such firms located in the city.
