Five Contra Costa County school districts are being warned they could be taken over by the state if they do not make deeper cuts.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, Antioch, John Swett, Mt. Diablo, West Contra Costa and Byron districts are not meeting state requirements to keep their books balanced the next three years.

The district plans to unveil their revised three year plans next month.

School officials say they have been struggling with state budget cuts, declining enrollment and failed tax measures.
