Applications up at America's top universities

There were 5,929 high school seniors who applied for early admission at Stanford over the last year -- a six percent increase. There were 754 students who were accepted and another 26,000 students are expected to apply by January. Northwestern, Pennsylvania, Duke and Johns Hopkins are seeing similar increases.
